CIS

If you work in the construction industry, whether as a contractor, subcontractor or on a construction site as part of your day-to-day duties, the work you carry out may fall under the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).

CIS was created by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) in order to facilitate the collection of tax from construction industry workers. If you choose to operate as a CIS registered worker, it allows you to take advantages of a range of benefits.

Tax Planning

Almost everything we do in life is subject to taxation. We pay Income Tax on the money we earn, VAT on the goods and services we buy, Capital Gains Tax on the possessions we sell, Corporation Tax on business earnings, to mention just a few. BJT Accountants offer a tax planning service to help clients find where they might be paying too much, and to make alterations where necessary. Tax planning is a way of ensuring that a person or business's finances are being managed in the most tax efficient way possible, in order to reduce bills and save money.

All the methods we use are entirely legal. BJT Accountants simply draw upon their experience and expertise to work out tax-efficient strategies for managing your tax liabilities.

Company Registration

Registering a company might seem an intimidating process, but it’s actually much simpler than you think, especially in the hands of seasoned company formation agents like us. We’ll not only help you with registering a company, but offer a range of services to support your business at all stages of its life. We’ll help you sort out your company registrations online, with a process so quick and easy, you can go ahead and focus on the fun bits.

Contact us to find out how we can take all the hassle out of forming your new company.

Bookkeeping

We assist businesses of all shapes and sizes from self-employed sole traders, through to partnerships, small and medium-sized limited companies.

Equally, we are experienced in assisting new businesses to establish their administrative systems and can provide personalised bookkeeping and training if required. As Xero certified partners, we can offer a range of software packages to assist in getting you up and running.

VAT Returns

If you're just starting out, BJT Accountants can help you decide whether you need to be VAT registered immediately or not. We will continue to monitor your situation, so that should it become obligatory for you to register for VAT, we can deal with all of the paperwork for you quickly and efficiently.

We will also monitor your position, checking when we think you are able to benefit from deregistering. Whether a new or existing business, we also look at the VAT schemes you are eligible for and establish which would benefit you and your company. Some VAT schemes can lead to tax savings and a reduction in bookkeeping responsibilities.

Payroll

Throughout the year, we will calculate your employees' net pay, report the figures and information to HMRC and provide you with payslips to pass on to your staff. We can calculate the tax and National Insurance deductions applicable, even if your employees are on sick, paternity or maternity leave.

Late payments or underpayments of employers' deductions can now lead to large penalties, so we can help you avoid incurring these. We can also prepare your benefits and expenses forms and advise you of any filing requirements or National Insurance that falls due. Benefits and expenses can be a very complicated area and knowing what and where to report can be tricky, but we can relieve you of the burden. We can also deal with pension and auto-enrolment responsibilities for you.

Self Assessment

Struggling to complete your self assessment tax return? BJT Accountants will ensure it will be filled out properly by the deadline.

A self assessment is a standard form of tax return that business owners are required to fill out and submit to HMRC. This should include details of all your earnings. It is the responsibility of whoever’s self assessment it is to work out how much tax needs to be paid.

Year End Accounts

Do you need help in preparing your annual accounts? BJT Accountants have vast experience in aiding and supporting sole trader and company accounts preparation.

A company's annual accounts are called the “statutory accounts,” and are based on the company’s financial records at the end of their financial year. The purpose of preparing annual accounts is to present HMRC with a report of the financial activity the company has undertaken in the last 12 months. A company is also required to file a set of accounts to Companies House within 9 months of their financial year end.

Are you ready for Making Tax Digital?

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has announced their plan to make tax digital, starting in April 2019 for businesses & self-employed people that breach the VAT threshold. As part of MTD, businesses registered for VAT with a taxable turnover above the VAT registration threshold of £85,000 will need to keep VAT records digitally and file their VAT returns using MTD compatible software. This will start from their first VAT period, occurring on or after 1 April 2019.
